Identify
1. Ask yourself: what top 5 virtues do I wish to attain this year? Write that down in your yearly goals section. These should be things you can control and would grant you personal fulfilment.
2. What are 3 habits you would need to amend to achieve those virtues? For example, would you need to remove yourself from certain triggers, stop smoking/ drinking; dance more?
3. How could you take actionable steps to change those habits? For example, would you buy a nicotine patch instead of cigarettes? Would you actively search for new dance classes and sign up?
Plan
4. Who can keep you accountable and how will you check in with this person? Ensure you are supported and have cheerleaders rooting for you. Find close friends or family you trust to tell you the truth, even when you don’t want to hear it.
5. How will my goals help humanity? You are your best self when you are helping others, so make time.
6. How will I reward myself? Choose a reward that doesn’t involve indulging in the habit you are trying to let go. For example if you plan to lose weight, treat yourself to a spa session once a month, instead of indulging in chocolate cake. This would be a great way to reward yourself for hard work, while staying on track to attaining your goals.
Execute
7. For your daily tasks, make a priority list, and a "can wait list." Then keep your to do list for each day short. This way you focus on getting what’s most important done without compromising on personal time for loved ones too.
